There is a whole category of flower sold on the promise of sleep and most of it is just heavy indica with a nice name. Granddaddy Purple is the one that has been doing it since 2003 and it still works.
Deep purple through the bracts with orange pistils, which in this case is the genetics rather than a cold-shocked gimmick. Grape and sweet wine on the nose over damp earth. It is not a complicated smell and it does not need to be.
Forty minutes in, the body goes heavy and stays there. This is not a subtle strain and it is not trying to be interesting. It is trying to put you to sleep, and it does, reliably, which for anyone using cannabis for that specific reason is worth more than novelty.
Thirty dollars. At that price the only real question is whether the grower cured it properly, and this one did.
Scorecard
Five scores out of ten. The overall is their average and is never set by hand, so it can never disagree with its own parts.
About Granddaddy Purple
Bred in the Bay Area in 2003 and the reason purple flower became a selling point in California. The colour comes from anthocyanins expressed by cold nights and is not itself an indicator of quality. A genuine sleep strain rather than a merely relaxing one.
